In his capacity as the Governor for Botswana at the IMF, he participated in, among others, meetings of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), the IMF’s Africa Group 1 Constituency, which comprises 22 Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries, and the African Consultative Group Meeting with the IMF Managing Director, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva.
Furthermore, the Governor held bilateral meetings with relevant Departments of the IMF and representatives of other organizations to discuss issues of mutual interest, including capacity building initiatives and provision of technical assistance.
It was observed that the global economy was fragile, and that there were tentative signs in early 2023 of a soft landing, with inflation receding, accompanied by low but steady growth.
The Governor and his team attended several briefings and seminars and other events during the Spring meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group. The Spring meetings are an annual event attended by delegates from member countries of the two institutions, and civil society to, among others, review performance of the global economy and policy responses.
