Orange Botswana and the Orange Foundation were pleased to participate in the
“Take a Girl Child to Work” initiative in partnership with UNICEF Botswana this year,
hosted in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child. Held on the 11 th
of October, the day was hosted under the theme “Invest in Girls rights: Our
leadership, Our wellbeing”.
Orange Botswana EXCO members hosted 10 girls from Moshupa and Shoshong
Senior Secondary Schools for a fun-filled day as the students engaged in meaningful
conversations about their interests and aspirations in ICT and beyond.
2023 was the inaugural edition of this initiative in Botswana. According to UNICEF,
the collaboration between UNICEF and UNFPA to bring the concept to corporates
across Botswana underscores importance of fostering gender equality, empowering
girls, and creating a brighter and more inclusive future.

“Our collaboration with UNICEF is of great significance, it is a step in the direction of
our diversity and inclusivity policy which supports and encourages young girls to
pursue careers in technical fields,” said Néné Maiga, CEO of Orange Botswana.
The International Day of the Girl, observed annually on October 11th is a global
platform to advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights. It works to make a tangible
impact by welcoming girls from local schools and communities into the workplace for
a day, to ignite their curiosity, broaden their horizons, and demonstrate the vast array
of opportunities available to them. More than twenty organisations ranging from
Private sector, embassies, UN Agencies and government entities participated in this
initiative across Botswana.
